Welcome to Yorkshire Wine School, an independent wine education company offering wine tasting for everyone.

We are not tied to any wine merchant or retailer and offer impartial advice, tasting only wines that we believe are good examples of their type. We like to learn about wine by concentrating on the flavours and aromas of each example. We look at the wine’s taste profile and seek to understand and explain how the characteristics of the grape variety can be influenced by the climate and local winemaking styles. As we do not sell wine we can advise where to buy the best wines locally and at the best prices. We work closely with local independent wine merchants to bring you the best tasting and most interesting wines currently available. The tastings are hosted by Laura Kent AIWS, who set up Yorkshire Wine School in the summer of 2011 to meet the growing demand in the Leeds and York area for wine and food events. Laura has worked with food and wine for nearly 15 years, in everything from small family owned cafe/bars to running the biggest branch of Oddbins Wine Merchant in the North East.

She has completed her WSET qualifications, including the Diploma Level 4, which are considered the gold standard in the wine industry around the world, and is a registered WSET Educator and an Associate Member of the Institute of Wine and Spirits. She brings this wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to all the Wine School sessions. The tastings and courses are, above all, fun and entertaining; we encourage a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. They are seated, and tutored, and usually include visual aids and notes, professional ISO tasting glasses are always used. Our guests come by themselves, in couples or in larger groups and it is also a great way to meet others with the same interest in tasting and learning about wine. Yorkshire Wine School is proud to be part of the network of Local Wine Schools which have been selected as a finalist for one of the wine industry’s most prestigious accolades. Harpers Wine & Spirits Awards selected us (along with Oz Clarke – tough competition!) as being among the most engaging Wine Educators in the UK.
